Situated in small town of Newlyn, one of the top fishing ports in the country and establish backed in 1905, the Pilchard Works are the last working salt pilchard factory in the country. The National Award winning museum, which is located within the existing working factory, exhibits the social and industrial history of pilchard fishing within Cornwall over the last 200 years. Exhibits include a net-making machine which dates back to 1890 and a screw press from 1926 which is still in operation today, as well as many other interesting displays dedicated to the catching and processing of Cornish Pilchards. This spectacular insight into the heritage of what was one of Cornwall's largest and most important industries is well worth a visit.
